I’m also sharing my recipes for nettle vinegar and violet flower lemonade.

I am immensely grateful to God for these abundant gifts of food and medicine!

I think foraging is a very important old world ski I think foraging is a very important old world skill that we should all relearn. Being able to identify and use the free abundant food and medicine that God has filled our woodlands with is not only a joy, but it is a skill that could save your life. All this talk of food shortages, knowing how to forage gives a little peace of mind and increased food security.

Do you forage? What do you like to gather? What foods and medicines do you craft with your foraged goods? Tell me in the comments please! 🌿

On Friday I will be sharing a post and video about five of my favorite herbs to forage in the spring. Be sure to check it out if you’d like to learn a little about foraging! I’ll also be sharing a few of my favorite spring herbal recipes 🌸🍀

In the spring I am often in the woods, basket in h In the spring I am often in the woods, basket in hand, gathering wild herbs for food and for medicine. Three of my favorites are in this picture, can you name them? 🌿🌸

I live just around the corner from a beautiful stretch of woods that runs along a creek. It is public land. In fact, we are able to bow hunt deer as well as gather fruits, nuts, mushrooms and other goodies. Throughout the year I collect morels, elderberries, juniper berries, and much more from these woods. It’s a real blessing!

Do you forage? What do you gather in your area?

I’m working on a post & video all about spring foraging. And to share some of my favorite spring herbal recipes. But it’s been so very rainy here I haven’t had enough clear weather to film! Looks like the rain should break here in a few days though, so stay tuned! I’ll let you know when it’s live ☀️☘️

Last year we put up over 400 eggs from our hens by Last year we put up over 400 eggs from our hens by “water-glassing” them. We’ve just started using them, since we lost our flock and our new chicks won’t lay until fall.

The oldest eggs we have water-glassed are from August. And they still taste freshly laid! Still 100x tastier than the best quality store bought eggs.

It has been such a blessing to have these eggs stored up. Water-glassing is easy, cheap and keeps eggs fresh up to two years. It’s a great way to build food security if you’ve got hens.

I shared my process for water-glassing in my free Summer Living Journal last year. Anyone interested in learning who didn’t snag the journal last year? I would be happy to e-mail you a copy 😊💗 DM your email and I’ll get it sent sometime this week.

If you have chickens, do you water glass? How long do you store your eggs?

Good morning! ☀️ I’ve shared everything tha Good morning! ☀️

I’ve shared everything that I do to take care of my baby chicks on my blog this morning. Check it out to learn about brooder set up, feed, herbal care, and more!

Chickens are currently the only homestead animals we have (well, aside from two lazy cats!). They are a great place to start as far as raising your own animals for food goes.

Do you keep chickens? What are your favorite breeds? Let me know below!
